What’s involved?
A once a month commitment (on average), on an agreed rota basis, on a Thursday (10.00 – 12.00, although often can be completed much quicker!), to organise the posting out of the week’s News.
The News will have been narrated by our Reader volunteers on the previous day, formatted by our Recorders, and left for the Copier to pass to you.
Full training will be given; no previous despatching experience is needed.
Each Thursday, the Despatcher will arrive in the Despatch Room to unpack USB sticks with the last week’s news recording from envelopes sent back by Listeners.
The current week’s USB sticks are then passed to the Copier who transfers the latest news edition to them, returns them to the Despatcher, who reposts them in the Listeners’ envelopes.
A simple log is maintained of the envelopes despatched each week.
The final task is to post the envelopes (sent by freepost, articles for the blind, thanks to the Royal Mail) – it’s as easy as that!
