Hello, I’m Chris Herbert, a reader for Talking News. I’ve been a reader for more years than I care to remember. A recorder by the name of Victor Doughty, who was doing some work with my husband, had heard me speak when I was ‘wearing one of my other hats’ and suggested reading for Talking News might be something I could be involved in. My husband passed on the message and the rest, as they say, is history.
I’ve always maintained I find out more about local news during my reading weeks than at any other time! It’s encouraging meeting with some of our listeners who attend Yorkshire Coast Sight Support as they share their thoughts, ideas and opinions about the content of our weekly news and, more recently, our magazines. It would appear that we are doing quite a lot that is right but there are always bits and pieces that can be improved on. Needless to say, it is something I have enjoyed doing from the beginning – or I wouldn’t still be doing it!
Inevitably one thing can lead to another and now, since the reconfiguration of the Management Team, I serve as a Committee Member. I do not have a named role (my choice!) but I do appreciate the opportunity of being able to make contributions at the meetings and support the organisation in this way. We’ve certainly moved on during recent months thanks to the dynamic nature of the meetings and the willingness and commitment of our volunteers.
