STN Volunteer News: March 2026

Meet our new Chief Editor, Anne Brown

Born in Wiltshire, I was raised in Essex by Yorkshire parents, went away to school, then teacher training college. This probably explains my accent which no one can quite place!

After a few brief spells teaching, interrupted by arrival of three children and moving to Scarborough, Dundee, Cardiff and finally Brontë country with a husband working unsociable hours as a hospital doctor, I settled into domesticity, started a gardening club and an antiques society, did voluntary work, became local correspondent for our village, wrote a few articles for the local paper; you know, the sort of things wives lucky enough to be supported by their husbands fill their time with.

That’s why I tell everybody when they ask me “What did you do?” I tell them I was a ‘kept woman!’
