STN Volunteer News 10: January 2025

Hello, my name is Martin Walker, also known as Mary Grunwell’s little brother! Having worked in Scarborough in the late 1980s, I made a decision to move back here, from Huddersfield, two and a half years ago, a decision I have not regretted. I now live in Cloughton where my house backs onto the village cricket green; fortunately, I’m a big cricket fan.

I have been involved with amateur dramatic societies for over 50 years and soon after moving was asked to audition for the Burniston and Cloughton Pantomime and this year will be my third year as the pantomime baddie! Almost as quickly my sister asked me if I would like to be a reader for STN and I thoroughly enjoy my Wednesday slots reading the news and making occasional contributions to the magazine.

Growing up, sports played a big part in my life, playing rugby for Barnsley and I’m now a member of Scarborough RUFC watching as many home games as possible. Before I came to live here, I enjoyed visiting to watch cricket at Scarborough CC and now as a member rarely miss days when Yorkshire visit that wonderful ground, although I could do without the occasional gifts from passing seagulls!

I feel very fortunate to have the company of my extended family and many new friends who have made me feel very welcome here in Scarborough.
